Observations (After Parker)
I watched as reality
rearranged itself
to place her at
its center.
I watched as the edges
of a cut and paste job
merged into the rubber
cement and I peeled
the excess
away with my fingers
and breathed deeply
(as a consolation prize.)
I watched as the names
scrolled by: people I had
never known, some whom I had
missed, eyes I had never
met, and I watched as they
marched on, up, and away,
into their scenes and their
knowledgable connections and
their never-you minds, knowing
them better than I’d admit.
I watched as she told
them what they wanted to hear
and showed them same to see.
And I watched myself
distend against the form,
powerless to affect
their earnest conclusions.
